Marni’s World:

I have found the portrayal of Marnis in the media to be extremely negative. While Marnis are generally adorable, well-loved creatures, TV and movies have cast them as witches, losers and pyschos. See below for some examples of this travesty:

Marnie from Trueblood:
This  Marnie was an  loser who happened to be a witch. She went nuts with power and tried to kill all the vampires plus some humans and brujo. She was not only a total downer, but also the ONLY unattractive character on the entire show.

Marni from Halloweentown:
This is another case of a Marni who was both a loser and a witch. She has no friends and even her family doesn’t see any point in educating her about magic. So runs away to Halloweentown to be where she belongs; with the freaks.

Marni from You Again:
This Marni is, sadly, also a loser. She tries to escape her true loserdom, but when she goes back home for her brother’s wedding, she finds her true self: an awkward, glasses wearing, acne having, total and complete mess. She is also the lead character in what is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Marnie from Alfred Hitchcock’s Marnie:
She is a troubled young woman who has an unnatural fear and mistrust of men, thunderstorms, and the color red. She is also a thief , horse killer and some what of a psychopath.

Real World:

Apparently one of the main characters on that new “Girls” show is named Marni. I’m really hoping she’s a good one. I can’t hold up the honor and pride of the name Marni all by myself, you know?
